Louilingo

Louilingo teaches Louisiana French and Louisiana Creole, two languages that are disappearing in the state my family comes from. The lessons are built around the way people actually speak, with recordings from heritage speakers instead of trying to make everything sound like textbook French.

I built the whole thing, from the brand and 3D mark to the website at louilingo.org and the app itself at louilingo.app. It works in a browser on desktop and can be added to a phone like an app, with native iOS and Android versions coming later.

There’s a lot more to it than vocabulary drills. It has lessons in both languages, cultural lectures using archival Louisiana photography, video lessons, flashcards, a glossary, tap-to-translate reading, pronunciation practice with native speakers, Louisiana radio, games, and a full DELF A1 practice exam.

I also designed it to work differently depending on the screen. Desktop has more room for sidebars and multiple columns, while the phone version is built around thumb navigation and a simpler single-column layout.
